The Churn

I guess we all have a few sentimental things we want to keep, just because they bring back good memories and happy thoughts of another time.
A few years ago I took this picture of some of my  "happy" things.
A little birdhouse made by my husband in his healthier years, my Mom's old churn and butter mold,
a blue enamel coffee pot from my brother, with my Dad's favorite flowers...marigolds.
The churn was special because I can remember Mom using it so much.
She made kraut, pickled beans, and sometimes when the grapes down on the creek were ripe she would make a churn of wine. I really wanted to keep it.

One day I went up to the building where I had left it sitting outside.
This is my churn.
I had seen some boys up there, but had no idea they were doing this.
They had to search to find the brick to break the churn.
Sad!
Sometimes bad things just happen for no reason.
I am glad I still have the picture.
And...God is still good and merciful to all who call on Him!
Have a blessed day.

  1. Sometimes memories are all we have. Just hope I can keep my mind to remember.

  2. Oh Shirley, I'm sorry your Mom's old churn was broken, and it meant so much to you. I love your "happy" things. Thank you for sharing them. I especially like the blue enamel coffee pot. There's something about blue in the home that's so pretty. The little bird house your husband made is sweet too. So glad you still have a picture of the old churn.
